Hypnotherapy Helps People Stop Smoking And It Can Help You

We know that tobacco is bad for our health, yet, according to the American Heart Association, 47.1 million people smoke in the United States. In this country, men make up the larger percentage of smokers at 23.5%, with women close behind at 18.1%. Across the globe, the statistics are staggering.

Another fact: smoking is an addiction that is extremely difficult to quit. One of the most effective treatments to help those quit cigarettes is hypnosis. This alternative therapy increases the success rate to kick the habit, but keep you from picking up another cigarette ever again.

We know that smoking causes cancer, and that the World Health Organization (WHO) has found that 50 of the 4000 chemicals in cigarette smoke cause cancer. But, it’s a sad fact that half of the world's population of children – that’s about 700 million children -- are exposed to tobacco smoke. 200,000 people around the world die from second-hand smoke at work. These statistics show that not only is it vital for the individual to quit smoking and stop for good, but it’s imperative they quit for the health of those around them.

Smokers become highly addicted to the feeling they get from the smoking experience. They get used to holding a cigarette, and it eventually becomes a big art of their day. They actually develop an oral fixation with cigarettes. It’s a physical and mental addiction, and very difficult to overcome. There can seem to be no hope for a cigarette smoker.

In 1987, an experiment was conducted to try treating smoking with hypnotherapy. The researcher points out that smokers have to deal with a habit, an addiction, and willpower. These three aspects are difficult to treat individually, let alone together, but hypnosis proved successful in treating all three: the habit, the addiction, and one's willpower to quit.

Stop Smoking

Suggestions used in the study were able to change the way the smokers felt about smoking, to become more aware of the negative health effects that accompany the habit not only to themselves, but to those around them. By targeting the smoker’s habit, addiction and will power, hypnosis proved a successful treatment. So many positives come out of quitting, not only for the smoker’s health, but the health of those around them. It provides a mental boost as well, an overall sense of self-control and well-being!

It is important for people to look into alternative methods to quit smoking. Hypnosis/hypnotherapydoes not require a long term commitment; in fact it generally requires only a few sessions to see success.
