Hypnosis For Weight Loss

Optimum health is achieved by being at the right weight for your height and bone structure. And being at that recommended weight improves so many facets of your life, like your joints; it lowers your risk of getting certain kinds of cancer and improves your daily night’s sleep.

Carrying extra pounds can lead to life-threatening illnesses like heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, and diabetes. Those extra pounds also affect your overall mental health, and can affect your lifestyle as well. And as important as being at a proper weight is, it’s one of the most difficult things to accomplish.

Experts say that diet and exercise are the natural and common sense approaches to being at, and maintaining, a healthy weight. But research shows, that hypnosis has proven to just as effective tool in losing weight and keeping it off for the long term.

There have been many studies conducted to understand the effect and benefits of hypnotherapy for weight control. In a 1998 study, 60 obese were randomly divided into three groups. One group received hypnosis that focused on stress reduction; another received hypnosis that focused on energy intake reduction, and the third group received only dietary advice.

Researchers studied the percent of body weight lost at seven follow-ups from the one-month mark up to 18-months after-treatment. At the 3-month follow-up, all participants in the three groups had lost 2-3% of their baseline body weight. However, at the 18-month follow-up, the group that had received hypnotherapy hypnosis and stress reduction reported “continued significant weight loss” compared to “no change” in the other two groups. This study shows that when hypnosis hypnotherapy is used in combination with stress relief suggestions, weight loss is significant in the long-term (Stradling, Roberts, Wilson, & Lovelock, 1998).

In a separate study (1996), Kirsch found a significant difference in the amount of pounds lost between one group who received hypnosis and the second group who didn’t. The initial follow-up showed the average weight loss to be 6.00 pounds in the non-hypnosis group, and 11.83 pounds in the hypnosis group. The last follow-up conducted showed that the non-hypnosis group lost an average of 6.03 pounds and the hypnosis group lost an average of 14.88 pounds. This meta-analysis study showed that the use of hypnosis greatly increased amount of weight loss over time.

Both studies show that hypnosis is a successful tool in weight loss treatment and has proven to provide lasting and long-term results. Best of all, it’s an effective and natural method of weight control, with only a few sessions needed to start seeing results.
